Volta Compliance is thrilled to be a named finalist in the renowned PFM Awards 2023 in the Partners in Carbon Savings category. Our partnership with Tadcaster Community Trust has proven to be a great collaboration, addressing the pressing issue of rising energy costs while paving the way for a greener future.

By installing solar panels, we have successfully helped Tadcaster Community Trust combat their escalating energy expenses, reduce carbon emissions, and inspire other community swimming pools to follow suit.

Tadcaster Community Trust's Energy Crisis

Tadcaster Community Sports Trust faced a significant challenge when their power bill nearly tripled in a single month in 2022. As their long-standing partner for over two decades, Volta Compliance was determined to assist them during this difficult time.

Rising Energy Costs for the Community Swimming Pool

The implementation of a higher energy price cap in October 2022 caused Tadcaster Community Swimming Pool's monthly bill to skyrocket from £3,949 in September to £11,140 in October. This sudden increase of £7,191 for electricity alone was an enormous burden for the Trust to bear.

Although the Trust had a gas contract in place until October 2023, safeguarding them from a double blow, it was evident that swift action was necessary before another energy bill surge occurred. If the gas prices experienced a similar increase, their monthly bill of approximately £4,000 would exceed £10,000, rendering the pool financially unsustainable unless the government intervened with support.

Seeking Solutions

Tadcaster Community Trust was not alone in their struggle, as other local swimming pools also witnessed a doubling of utility costs. Measures such as LED lighting, motion sensors, pool covers, and temperature reductions were implemented by GLL, the organisation responsible for running the pools. While these efforts helped mitigate the rising costs, they were not sufficient on their own. Swim England initiated the "Save Our Pools" campaign, urging the government to provide additional support, as over 40% of local authorities were likely to face closures or service reductions, potentially leading to the shutdown of more than 100 pools.

Volta Compliance to the Rescue

With a longstanding working relationship of over 20 years, Volta Compliance was quick to respond to Tadcaster Community Trust's predicament. After seeing the Trust's manager, Chris Porter, discussing rising energy costs on BBC News, we were determined to provide assistance. Our team proposed a range of solutions, including the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. These panels harness the sun's energy and convert it into usable electricity, offering a sustainable and cost-effective alternative.

We are delighted to report that Tadcaster Community Trust has already started to reap the benefits of these solutions, successfully offsetting the tremendous hike in their monthly energy bills.

Reducing Energy Output for a Sustainable Future

At Volta Compliance, our mission is to ensure the compliance and energy efficiency of Yorkshire businesses. We offer a range of services, from energy audits for ESOS obligations to the implementation of energy-saving measures such as LED lighting and solar PV installations.

With energy prices currently at an all-time high, there has never been a better time to invest in energy efficiency. If you are interested in discussing energy-saving measures for your business, we are here to help. Reach out to us at 0113 436 0402 or via email at [email protected].

Volta Compliance is honoured to be recognised as finalists in the PFM Awards, and we look forward to attending the ceremony, where we can showcase our partnership with Tadcaster Community Trust and celebrate our joint efforts in carbon savings and sustainable solutions.
