Meet our Managing Director – Richard Carr

Volta Compliance was founded back in 2016 by Richard Carr and his partner, Sarah. They both started out on the tools and have since grown the company to a team of seven people.

In this Q&A with Richard, we’ll provide a bit more insight into the man behind the business…

What does your job entail?

Working on the business, I’m responsible for driving the company forward – and in the right direction – whilst maintaining the culture and values that we’ve created and lived by.

What was your career before you started at Volta Compliance?

Prior to founding Volta Compliance, I worked in a family business. Before that, I worked in insurance. I also had a brief stint in mortgages, believe it or not.

What’s the best thing about your job?

My favourite thing is creating opportunities – for people, for businesses and for the younger generation. It’s also fantastic to watch the team embrace our culture and flourish within it. They contribute brilliant ideas and work both hard and smart. That’s why we all feel a great sense of satisfaction when we get amazing feedback from our customers.

What did you want to be when you were little?

I wanted to be an RAF fighter pilot!

What has been your favourite project to work on and why?

The Skipton Building Society headquarters in Skipton. We carried out their electrical installation condition report, which was a huge inspection and test. The project was won from NG Baileys – not on price, but on quality of service and systems, working closely with the client to provide the highest level of customer service.

What three words would other members of the team use to describe you?

The team would hopefully describe me as fair, passionate and knowledgeable.

Where do you see the company in five years’ time?

At the current rate of growth, in five years’ time we’ll have a team of electricians completely immersed in the customer-oriented culture that we’ve created. They’ll carry out work nationwide and challenge the industry with new technology to help us differentiate ourselves from the competition.

Our work will continue to be carried out the highest standards – and we’ll continue to protect visitors and employees from the dangers that can arise from electrical installations in the workplace.

What do you get up to when you aren’t at work?

I love spending time with my family – my wife and two boys – as well as playing guitar, going to the gym and water skiing whenever I get the chance! I’m a black belt in Kenpo Karate.
