meet our electrician – mihaly szilagyi

When we’re asked what sets Volta Compliance apart, the answer is always our outstanding team. They go above and beyond for our clients, consistently delivering the highest standards for electrical servicing and installation work.

To give you a better idea, read on for an introduction to one of the experienced electricians at Volta Compliance. Say hello to Mihaly Szilagyi!

What does your job entail?

I look after existing customers and complete projects for new customers. That could be anything from testing electrical appliances, fire alarms and emergency lighting to carrying out electrical installation condition reports and installing electric vehicle charging equipment.

I’m now in my fourth year at Volta Compliance, and have been responsible for my first apprentice, Alex, since November 2020.

What was your career before you started at Volta Compliance?

It all started with my electrical apprenticeship in Hungary. After working as an electrician for a few years, I moved to England. I worked as a cleaner as well as in a warehouse, packaging and repairing returned furniture. Then I became the production manager in the same warehouse.

After a few years, I decided that I wanted to work as an electrician again. Thankfully, I met Richard, who offered me a great opportunity and helped me through my apprenticeship to become a qualified electrician in the UK.

What’s the best thing about your job?

For me, it’s a privilege to be able to work on different installations and in different environments. There’s always something new to learn, especially with technologies advancing so fast. There’s practically no limit to learning, which I really like.

What did you want to be when you were little?

I always looked up to my father, who was a driver. Because we had a cheap, old car, he had to do a lot of work on it just to keep it on the road. It was a lot of fun for me and I learnt a lot from it, so I planned to be a car mechanic for a while.

What has been your favourite project to work on and why?

My favourite project was the Leeds Branch of Richard Austin Alloys. The scale and complexity were challenging, but the result was well worth the effort. Our system added great value to the building, helping the management in their job. The final handover was very satisfying as a result.

What three words would other members of the team use to describe you?

I’ll go for friendly, supportive and helpful.

Where do you see the company in five years’ time?

As always, the company will maintain the same high quality of work for new and existing customers. I expect us to grow steadily and be twice as big as we are today, in five years’ time.

What do you get up to when you aren’t at work?

Away from work, I like to walk, cycle and discover new places – all with my family. I also love playing the piano with my daughter.
